The Texas Police Athletic Federation Games in El Paso in June 2023

The Texas Police Athletic Federation Games will be held in El Paso in June 2023 and will bring between $5 million and $7 million in economic impact, the El Paso Athletic Commission said.

The matches were announced Friday at the County Coliseum. The event is expected to bring together 1,000 to 1,200 participants from June 11 to 17, 2023.

“I hope we realize how exciting it is to have these events,” said El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego. “This is an opportunity we have to shake things up in El Paso.”

There will be more than 30 events at the games, including archery, basketball, bass tournament, biathlon, bodybuilding, bowling and CrossFit.

Attendees will include law enforcement, active or retired. Also invited to compete are members of the Fire Department, Border Patrol, Homeland Security and active or retired military, a news release said.

Ryan Urrutia, commander of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, said the event was an opportunity for law enforcement to show off their skills outside of their careers.

“We are not just policemen, we do other things,” Urrutia said. “And that way the public can come and see it.”

Participants from Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mexico can register for the event. Once members of law enforcement have registered, the remaining places will be reserved for the general public.

Beau Bagley, vice chairman of the El Paso Athletic Commission, said venues will be determined in December or January. The event will take place at different locations in the department.

The 2022 games will take place in June in San Angelo.
