DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The four-day Derajaat festival, featuring a jeep rally, tent picketing, horse racing and other traditional games, started here on Thursday.

On the occasion, Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Faisal Amin Gandapur and Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Ali Amin Khan Gandapur handed out tags to participants of the off-road jeep rally.

A 120 kilometer track has been laid out for the second national off-road jeep rally. The qualifying round will take place on Friday at the CPEC Yarik Interchange circuit. Prizes will be awarded to the winners at the closing ceremony to be held at the Rata Kalachi Sports Complex on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur said that more than 200 cars participated in the jeep rally. He said the Dera Jaat festival was a mega event held at the city’s main sports stadium.

Provincial Minister Faisal Amin Gandapur said on the occasion that the festival will promote peace, love and brotherhood among the local people. He said it would help promote the culture and traditions of Dera Ismail Khan nationally.

He said cultural dance, archery, horse and cattle dance, pet show, wrestling and bodybuilding competitions, gymnastics and other local sports will be part of the festival. He hoped the festival would attract a large number of people as many famous artists would also perform there.

Sahibzada Sultan, a famous runner, who also participated in the last off-road challenge, told reporters that the track was extremely beautiful and the palm trees added to the beauty of the track.

“The track is located at the foot of the mountains and that’s why runners from all over the country are drawn to this event,” he said.
