AFTER unveiling several top athletes like Innocent Choga, George Takundwa and Elvis Chibhamu among others, the Mr Mufakose Bodybuilding competition is returning to the bodybuilding sports calendar after a 14-year hiatus.
Under the theme “Fighting Drug Addiction Through Sports in Mufakose”, the contest is set to return with an impressive cast at Rutendo Hall on September 3.
One of the organizers, Muchada Mutini, said the competition was scheduled for Mufakose on September 3 and several athletes are expected to honor the occasion.
“We are holding the Mr. Mufakose Bodybuilding Contest. So far everything is on point and we only have a few areas left to tweak. We created a committee made up of Tendai Mukariri, Clide Mutero and Masiye Suwali. Our goal is to promote a drug-free generation by participating in sports.
A total of five categories will be competing, including Mr. Mufakose Junior, Senior, Masters and Physical Fitness.
Mutini said the contest will have participants from Budiriro, Kuwadzana, Warren Park, Kambuzuma and Mbare.
“Mr Mufakose is an open competition and will have athletes from all the suburbs of Harare. The theme of the event will be: “Say no to drugs”. As a community, we face challenges related to illicit drugs. We want to get young people off drugs through sport and modeling.
“We also want to make it an annual event. It last took place in 2008, but due to economic difficulties and the Covid-19 pandemic, it was suspended. A healthy body brings a healthy mind,” Mutini said.
