KOCHI: TV Pauly has recently been appointed Chairman of the Bodybuilders Federation of India. Laureate Arjuna was clear about what he wanted to achieve while in this position. “Bodybuilding in India can use a shot in the arm. It is not given the prominence enjoyed by many other sports. I want to try to promote it as much as possible,” Pauly said.

He is the first Malayali to become president of the federation. The 49-year-old wishes to take this opportunity to encourage and support bodybuilders in Kerala as well. “While being the first Malayali to hold this position is a matter of pride, I think it is also a responsibility. I can help emerging talents in the state and thereby improve the overall bodybuilding support in Kerala. As someone who has risen through the ranks, I want to lead by example while giving new talent a platform to prove themselves. I can use my experience and position to give them more opportunities.” he declares.

Pauly received the Arjuna Award in 1998-99 for his contributions to sport. He has been Mr. India several times and won the titles of Mr. Asia and Mr. Commonwealth. Pauly eventually turned his attention to administration. He was also Secretary General of the Bodybuilding Association of Kerala and a member of the Executive Committee of IBBF.

The IBBF is recognized by the National Sports Federation and has approximately 45 state/union territory associations and government sports control commissions affiliated with it. Pauly feels he has a big responsibility on his hands.

“I want to start more bodybuilding competitions for budding talents in Kerala and outside. This will be the priority. Apart from this, seminars and other training sessions will also be held. Bodybuilding has a lot of potential in India,” he said. He added that he wanted to launch more initiatives that identify young talent and support those facing challenges such as financial constraints. The veteran has an impressive CV. Pauly is also a former military man who served in the Indian Air Force as a Master Warrant Officer.
