‘It’s just my prime time’ Paulo Costa shows off leaner physique ahead of UFC 278

Paulo Costa’s UFC career has been more interesting than most.

He burst onto the scene after an appearance on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 in 2014. He won his first four UFC fights to catapult the UFC middleweight rankings and win a title shot against Israel Adesanya in 2020.

He was made to look average against The Last Stylebender, losing by TKO in the second round. Costa would later attribute his first professional loss to too much red wine. He spent more than a year on the sidelines and returned to face Marvin Vettori last October.

Costa lost that fight via unanimous decision. The build-up to this fight has been dominated by Costa’s inability (or unwillingness) to put on weight. The fight ultimately went down as a light heavyweight contest.

Since then, Costa has been embroiled in controversy over allegations he punched and tried to force a nurse to falsify a vaccination record for him in Brazil. Costa has denied those allegations.

Costa is now booked to face former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 on August 20. And, according to his social media, it looks like he’s in great shape to do it.

The fighter released a series of images and videos showing off a much leaner physique than what we’ve seen recently.

“This time I have no injury,” he wrote on Twitter. “More muscle less fat. It’s just my prime time like I said. Unfortunately for all middleweight guys. God has his grace and knowledge to do something amazing.

“It’s just my prime time,” Costa repeated in another post.

Costa vs. Rockhold was scheduled to take place at UFC 277 last month. However, the fight was postponed for an undisclosed reason.

UFC 278 is set to be headlined by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, defending against Leon Edwards. The main card also features Jose Aldo against Merab Dvalishvili and Marcin Tybura against Alexander Romanov.
