The country’s up-and-coming bodybuilders are expected to flock to the Trysupps Fitness Academy Fife Avenue branch in Harare to take part in this year’s edition of Mr Novice Zimbabwe 2022, scheduled for March 26.
A total of 50 athletes from across the country are expected to compete for honours.
National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of Zimbabwe (NFZBBF) General Secretary Quiet Shangai said NewsDay Sport that the competition aims to expose newbies to the fitness industry and help them in their career progression.
“Novice is arguably the most important competition on our calendar as it aims to expose novices to the fitness industry in terms of training, nutrition and career progression. Most athletes who don’t get such exposure end up not reaching their full potential,” he said.
“We are expecting 50 athletes. We talk to coaches. Shantel Batch from Bulawayo is bringing one athlete, while Simon Gama who is also from Bulawayo is bringing 10 athletes, while five athletes will come from Manicaland have confirmed.
“CC Banks coaches two athletes, just like Godwin Mhaka. We are also expecting two athletes from Tarirai Chirume as well as one from Tinotenda Ryan Gumbo. Former Ms Zimbabwe Claudia Muvhuti is also bringing her daughter,” he said.
Shanghai said the competition was for beginners only, so anything could happen.
“Novice is for beginners, so you can’t identify a favorite. Also, from an admin seat, you can’t tag a favorite because if that favorite wins, we have a problem. This year we will be hosting a packed series of seminars on career progression, nutrition, training, AMA,” he added.
The competition will consist of five categories from which the winners will be crowned, including Junior Bodybuilding, Women’s Fitness, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Physique and Senior Bodybuilding.
Categories include Juniors Under-21, Seniors One Line-Up, Ladies Fitness Figure and Men’s Fitness Physique.
Last year’s winners include outgoing Senior Novice Men’s Bodybuilding Champion Alister Dimba, outgoing Men’s Physique Champion Pritchard Hoko and outgoing Women’s Champion Lynette Tom.
This year’s competition is sponsored by TrySupps Zimbabwe.
