Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Announces He’s Coming to a Bodybuilding Show This Year
Former professional wrestler and action movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially announced that he will be entering the competitive bodybuilding scene in 2022.
Dwayne The Rock Johnson has always been known for its amazing mass monster physics exhibited in countless Hollywood action movies. He is also known to be a lover of competitive bodybuilding – even planning the Athletic Event set to put on a star-studded IFBB Pro show (unclear if that will still happen after many setbacks). Now it looks like the muscular actor has built up enough passion to hit the competitive scene. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially announced that he plans to compete in a bodybuilding competition before the end of 2022.
The announcement comes from an interview with the UK-based outlet bodybuilding today – who interviewed The Rock during his recent trip to Hawaii. However, he has yet to make the announcement on any of his official social media.
The Rock didn’t give any specific information, such as what league he plans to compete in or when exactly we can expect to see him on stage. His only promise was to prepare to go on stage before the end of the year. He went on to state that he has been a lifelong bodybuilding fan and respects the dedication and lifestyle required to be an elite competitor. They have long been the same kind of principles he lived by (giving him one of the most muscular physiques in modern Hollywood).
The Rock went on to say that there would be “no greater honor” than to at least compete on the bodybuilding scene at least once in your life. After many setbacks with his own attempt to start a professional bodybuilding competition and expo (Athleticon), he thought now was the right time – because he’s “not getting any younger”. The Rock detailed his confidence diet and workout program which has been a long-kept transformation secret.
The announcement comes days before Wrestlemania 38 – with many fans and outlets suspecting The Rock is set to make an appearance. Most recently, he stayed in Hawaii, where many WWE fans believe he is preparing for the event. If The Rock does indeed appear at Wrestlemania, it may be during this event that he makes a broader announcement of his competitive bodybuilding plans.
Beyond his previous attempts to launch a new big-budget professional bodybuilding show with Athleticon, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had long been involved with professional bodybuilding in an indirect form. He helped produce the 2016 Mr. Olympia with Dany Garcia and his production company Seven Bucks Productions. He has also occasionally appeared backstage at some NPC/IFBB Pro events.
As it stands, the Rock is 49, so it remains to be seen what category of bodybuilding competition he will attempt to compete in. Will he get some kind of special invite from a major league like NABBA or IFBB Pro? Or will he simply choose to participate in an amateur competition or a masters competition? Despite his age, he displays an incredible physique – if he chose to focus even more on competitive bodybuilding for just one show, we could see something really exciting on stage.
At the moment, little additional information is available. Generation Iron will continue to update this story as more updates are announced. Until then, you can see more information in bodybuilding todaythe official message below:
