The Detroit Lions want to see D’Andre Swift take the next step to the top flight in 2022, and he can achieve that in large part by being an enduring force on the court.

So far, it looks like Swift has been dedicated to that. Already in OTA sessions, Swift has been impressive on the pitch and not just for her hard work in drills or her impressive maturity.

Already, it looks like Swift is ready to take a beating on the court, as he has improved his conditioning significantly. Some photos have surfaced from the work period that show a very muscular Swift on the court taking on a more imposing look.

Here’s an example, courtesy of Twitter user Honolulu Blues:

Seeing a more imposing Swift is a welcome sight for fans, and he looks like the kind of player who could be about to do some serious damage on running back this year with some extra weight to help him stay tough.

Swift has made the weight room the biggest focus of the offseason

It’s no surprise to see Swift looking so good, as he’s confirmed it was something that ended up being a major focus of his offseason. Always looking for an edge or an upgrade, Swift revealed in a media interview over a month ago on April 21 that the weight room was an important focus for the offseason in terms of its own improvement for 2022.

“(My goal was to) stay in the weight room, stay in the workout room, get out there and work hard. I’m not looking forward to like backing off or anything like that. I’m going to work,” Swift said. “My groin is fine, my shoulder is fine. I’ve been in the weight room, I’ve been training in the gym, I’ve been working out, I’ve run courses and I feel great.”

Clearly, Swift is driven to seek success on the pitch with such a mindset. Beyond the injuries that have slowed him down, the focus is now on improving and attacking the 2022 season very relentlessly after a strengthening offseason.

How a stronger Swift will benefit the Lions for 2022

Whether or not Swift plays as hoped for Detroit next season behind the team front may very much depend on her ability to stay healthy in the short and long term. Injuries were an unfortunate part of his history in the league’s early seasons, and that continued into 2021 with the shoulder condition that held him back until the final weeks of the year around Thanksgiving. Maybe with a stronger, more durable frame, Swift can avoid some of the nagging little injuries that cost him time in his early years on the court.

The good news for Lions fans is that Swift returned to the field to finish the season and was able to finish it strong against Seattle and Green Bay in the last pair of games of the season. This Swift, with the added bonus of more weight, could prove very difficult to stop.

Finding a way to keep Swift healthy and fresh to continue making that kind of impact had to be on the minds of the Lions brass this offseason. Seeing him appear very muscular and muscular, therefore, must be a welcome sight for Leos. This might be the biggest news yet in terms of progress for the team.
