Cochranite Wins Big at Alberta Bodybuilding Competition

Brett Rehman isn’t popping champagne or eating cake as he celebrates his big win at the Alberta Open.

The 41-year-old bodybuilder clinched first place in the Men’s Physique and first place in the Masters Division at the Paramount Performance competition in Calgary last weekend.

“The federation we compete in is called the Canadian Physique Alliance, so they’re the only ones that are affiliated with the IFBB, which is the International Bodybuilding Federation and which is basically the NHL, NFL, major leagues of bodybuilding is the IFBB.” said Rehman.

Rehman says this competition was necessary to qualify for the national pro qualifying show he will be heading to in Toronto on June 4.

To get to this level, discipline is key, says Rehman “It takes time. Building muscle doesn’t happen overnight, neither does weight loss, it all takes time and discipline and dieting. , a workout and your recovery. He has to be on point, he has to be 100%. There’s a lot of sacrifice, when you go to birthday parties, you don’t have cake, you eat in a container Tupperware and it all depends on your caloric intake.

The Cochrane resident, owner of Reflex Supplements, has been practicing strength training for about 13 years.

“I was 28 when I really started lifting weights which didn’t really appeal to me until I worked in the oil business and I didn’t want to be in the bar anymore and that was my excuse to walk away from the party and it just took off from there and the bug bit me, and the next thing I knew, here I am.”
