Arnold Schwarzenegger and Logan Paul launch slapping contest
Arnold Schwarzenegger is the king of diversification. He first rose from dominating the world of professional bodybuilding to being one of the most bankable men in action cinema, before embarking on a political career. He also put his name to sporting events like the Arnold Classic. For his most recent project, an adventure in live sports, he teamed up with another multi-hyphen: controversial vlogger-turned-boxer Logan Paul.
The event in question? A slapping contest.
On the latest episode of his web series impulsiveYouTube has announced that they will both be hosting the Slap Fighting Championship live in Columbus, Ohio on March 5 as part of the Arnold Classic.
“Arnold and I are going to present the Slap Fighting Championship,” he said. “You may have seen this event go viral online when two men, or two women, stand face to face and slap each other.”
Paul went on to explain that slap fighting as a sport originated in Russia, then gained popularity in Eastern Europe before making its way to the United States. “Why this is hilarious is, as you know, I was supposed to go to Russia to participate in the slapping contest,” he added.
“It’s going to be a great moment,” Schwarzenegger said. “The Arnold Classic is a festival of sports and fitness, and we never choose, or have an attitude, to any sport. So people who ask me…why would you have that? I say I have the same question when we had an ax throwing contest… Why would you do archery? Why would you do an event where people are physically disabled? We have everything. We have sport after sport after sport, we don’t judge anything, we’re just here for people to compete, and for people to watch and be entertained and inspired.”
“I know we’re going to have a great time watching the slapping competition,” he continued, “as long as we don’t get slapped!”
