MORE than 200,000 visitors are expected to attend the MassKara 2022 festival celebration in October two years after it was set back due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
Atti. Pinky Mirano-Ocampo, Founder of the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation and Director of this year’s Festival, said it was time for us to come together and unite to bring our iconic smiles back to our faces, which explains the theme ” Balik-Yuhum”.
Mirano-Ocampo, on the sidelines of the VIP and Sponsor Gala, which is a MassKara fundraising event held at the Stonehill Suites in Bacolod last night, August 21, said the festival’s theme song would be sung by Darren Espanto.
It will also be used for the MassKara festival music video and will be arranged for the street dance competition incorporating lyrics by Hiligaynon, she said.
Besides Espanto, the girlfriend of Victoria City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, actress Sue Ramirez also directed a music video for the festival.
Mirano-Ocampo pointed out that this will be the biggest MassKara festival, as it will not only feature a street dancing competition, but will also test the Bacolodnon’s endurance in a sports competition dubbed “MassKara Olympics”. .
Panaad Park pavilions in Bacolod City will also open as part of the festival venues.
Meanwhile, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said they have a collaborative effort with the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation, Inc. in organizing this year’s festival.
The city government will not grant financial support to the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation, Incorporated instead, the latter will be the one to raise the necessary funds to mount the festival, Benitez pointed out.
He said the difference of this festival is that they have divided the events into three parts in which the first part or the first week will be meant to be sporting events followed by trade fairs, cultural and entertainment events the second week.
Currently, hotel reservations are approaching full capacity this time around and they have already started looking for airline guesthouses for guests, Benitez revealed.
“We only have 3,500 hotel rooms and I will also ask Mr Frank Carbon (from Weesam) to do an extra ferry trip during the MassKara festival (since) we are expecting a lot of visitors,” said the mayor.
For his part, Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya urged everyone to participate in this year’s MassKara festival.
From October 1 to 23, the Masskara will rock the island and unfold its spellbinding and entertaining spectacle of vibrant, electric and high-energy events.
Other competitions include bodybuilding competition, LGBTQ events, Miss Bacolod Masskara and many more to mention.
