Winstrol: The Complete History
Winstrol or “Winny” is one of the most popular anabolic steroids in the market. This substance was first produced in the late 1950s by Winthrop Labs, but it didn’t become so popular until the 1988 Olympics. A Canadian sprinter by the name Ben Jonson went against all the odds to beat the favorite US sprinter Carl Lewis to the 100m gold medal. A few weeks down the line, Ben Johnson failed a drug test and tested positive for Stanozolol commonly known as Winstrol. This not only derailed the Canadian’s career but it also placed Winstrol on the map increasing its popularity significantly.
Bodybuilders realized that their cutting goals can be achieved a lot faster and with more ease thanks to this steroid. Little did they know that the substance did have some serious drawbacks that will affect their wellbeing a few months/years later. These complications became too severe and rampant among many bodybuilders forcing governments to cease their production and distribution. This didn’t stop underground labs from making the steroid though and neither did it discourage most bodybuilders from getting the steroid off their workout masterplans.
But, is this anabolic steroid really worth your investment in this day and age. Don’t get me wrong but the bodybuilding and fitness industry has come a long way, and the one thing we are really grateful for is that research has increased our options when it comes to supplements. This means that no one has to endure using any substance whose side effects surpass its benefits.
A decade or so ago using this steroid would have been sensible to some extent but what about right now? The following information on Winstrol should help you look at this steroid from a more objective perspective based on current data before deciding whether it is worth your time.
What is Winstrol?
Winstrol or Stanozolol is a DHT-based anabolic steroid that is commonly used for cutting. This steroid has an anabolic rating of around 320 (over three times the rating of testosterone) and an androgenic rating of 20 which made it one of the best substances to use during the cutting phase. The steroid proved really helpful in reducing body fat, and the best part is it achieved this while ensuring that the athletes never lost any muscle mass in the process.
Other than helping one with dropping the extra fat, the steroid was also useful in boosting stamina and strength. And therefore, unlike using a calories deficit diet, this substance allowed athletes to lose fat without affecting their overall performance in the gym.
Winstrol is an excellent compound for cutting, but the story is very different when it comes to bulking. This anabolic steroid doesn’t have the best formula to promote the growth of muscle mass and hence by itself, the compound is pretty useless if bulking is your goal. You can, however, stack it with several other substances to increase some muscle mass during your cutting cycle.
How does it Work?
Winstrol achieves fat loss through various approaches. The steroid is formulated to bind on androgen receptors with a very strong affinity.
Studies have shown that this substance does an excellent job of reducing the amount of sex hormone-binding globulin. The presence of SHBG traps the male sex hormone testosterone, and this reduces the overall count of free testosterone that your body can use. By lowering the levels of SHBG, Winstrol ensures that there is more testosterone available thus making your body more anabolic.
Winstrol will also boost protein synthesis which explains why the supplement not only helps you to retain your muscles but may also increase the muscle mass a bit. An increase in protein synthesis supplies your muscles with more proteins. This boosts their growth significantly.
Side Effects of Using Winstrol
Herein lies the biggest limitation of using Winstrol. Winstrol just like all the other anabolic steroids comes with serious adverse reactions some of which can be life-threatening. You could use this steroid at low doses or use legal steroids and the risk of witnessing these adverse reactions will still remain pretty high. It’s even more worrying when you learn that some of these effects can become permanent!
Here are some of the side effects of using Winstrol:
- Testosterone Suppression
Natural testosterone suppression is one of the most common side effects of using this and other anabolic steroids. Winstrol will affect the production of natural testosterone which leads to serious health issues once you stop using the steroid. Your balls will start shrinking, energy levels will drop, your muscles will disappear and get replaced with fat, and you may also experience infertility.
You can reduce suppression by using the steroid alongside other exogenous substances. Taking a break and using other drugs that stimulate the production of natural testosterone may also be helpful. Even then, the levels of natural testosterone production will never return to the norm.
- Liver Toxicity
Winstrol is toxic for your liver, and this is regardless of whether you are using pills or injections. The risk goes even higher for everyone who is using oral Winstrol.
With your liver damaged, this steroid will leave you exposed to severe medical complications as your body will no longer be capable of filtering toxins out of your system.
- Increase in LDL
Winstrol will increase the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) in your body leaving you susceptible to dangerous heart conditions such as stroke and heart attack.
Winstrol interferes with the various chemical process in your brain resulting in depression, mood swings and other negative behavioral changes. These effects tend to set in once you come off the drug.
- Reduced Libido
Testosterone is the hormone behind every man’s sex drive. Since this steroid does great damage to the production process of the hormone, your sex drive will get a huge blow.
- Joint pain
There are reports that Winstrol can help with improving the production of collagen. This promotes the tendons and ligaments around your joints. Unfortunately, Winstrol also reduces body weight by lowering the number of fluids in the body and this affects an essential joint lubricant known as synovial fluid. The joints will start rubbing against each other resulting in excruciating pain.
Winstrol users are also likely to experience baldness, insomnia and acne breakout.
How to Use Winstrol?
Winstrol is available in both oral and injectable forms. None of these are safe, yet they all pose severe dangers to your health.
Oral supplementation of Winstrol is more convenient to use, but they are still toxic to your liver since the steroid is formulated in a 17aa-structure.
The recommended dosage of oral supplementation of Winstrol is between 40-80mg per day. Depending on your weight and response to the drug, the dose can be higher or lower. The half-life of oral Winstrol is around 8 hours. You can, therefore, use the steroid in a single serving or you can split it into two. It works pretty well either way.
The doses of injectable Winstrol, on the other hand, vary from 50 to 100mg. Injectable Winstrol has a 24-hour half-life, and hence a single injection is enough to keep the substance in your system the whole day.
A single cycle should go for around 6 to 8 weeks. Using the steroid for more than 8 weeks will increase the risk of severe adverse reactions. You should also reduce the dosages steadily in the last two weeks of using Winstrol. You then get onto a proper post cycle therapy period before starting your next cycle.
Personally, I don’t believe that Winstrol is worth all the hurdles that you will have to jump through to obtain and use it. The first red flag is the fact that unless you have a prescription from a licensed physician, you can only get this drug from the black market. Underground labs are uncontrolled which means that you never know what exactly you are injecting into your body. Winstrol is already dangerous as it is; now imagine what would happen if you consume a contaminated version of the steroid.
The cutting results from using this steroid are also not permanent. If you stop taking Winstrol and your lifestyle isn’t healthy, you will start noticing weight gains after a couple of months. Are a few months of a ripped physique really worth the trouble that you will have to go through?!
